Fellow coaches, I get that our resident defensive coach Kyle beat me to it and dropped a killer piece on Georgia Tech running Counter last year, but as an O-line junkie, I can’t resist geeking out over a Brent Key squad in action. Those undefeated Yellow Jackets are straight beasts up front, delivering that gritty, fun brand of ball we all crave. Throw in their athletic QB, who might cough up the rock a bit too much but brings serious dual-threat heat in the ground game, and you’ve got a clinic on wheels.

So, let’s break down their game against Temple this season and build on Kyle’s counter breakdown from last year. We’ll dissect some GT variations, reads, and power schemes that’ll have you scheming up ways to terrorize defenses at your Friday night lights.

Bash GT

Coaches, if there’s one play that’s a Swiss Army knife for your playbook, it’s GT counter. You can run it from darn near any formation since you’re just pulling linemen with no fuss with extra backs or receivers messing up the core. It’s prime real estate for window dressing, and Georgia Tech masters that art like pros.

In this opener, Tech’s knocking on the door from the 17, rocking an unbalanced set. They jet the slot receiver for the bash, with the wing and back paving the edge against the corner and safety. QB’s eyeing that edge defender.

Temple’s clamped in a tight front with double threes and a nose, and GT is the perfect gut punch here. Jet motion lures the strong side backer into the box, letting the tight end and play side tackle combo straight into him. Play side guard angles down on the nose; center seals back on the three. Backside guard pulls and kicks the edge, while the tackle wraps to thin air. Heck, that tackle could’ve toted the pigskin himself. QB reads the backside edge, tucks it, and put up six for the Jackets.
